Error updating/uninstalling Stylecop

Every time I attempt to uninstall StyleCop or upgrade it to the latest version it get 80% of the way through and then brings up an error dialog of "The specified account already exists" and then promptly cancels the uninstall/update.

A google search so far has returned nothing. I've attempted to manually delete the old version of StyleCop (including registrys) but I still get this error message when attempting to install version

Does anyone have any idea why this is happening (or better how to fix this)

Many Thanks

This is a problem with MSI and a corrupted registry entry, not specifically the StyleCop installer. Run Microsoft's fix it at the link below and it will uninstall it cleanly.

I'd tried that and had no luck it was still not working, tried deleting all registry entries that mentioned stylecop and still had no luck.

Only way I was able to eventually fix it was to install an older version that we had and then upgrade version by version until it would let me install the latest version. Something seems amiss in the uninstall/install process.

Glad you got it resolved. What I mentioned is what worked for me when I had the exact same issue so I threw it out there. Glad you came back and posted what worked for you because it looks like there are multiple issues that can arise while attempting to uninstall it.

This is no longer an issue starting with StyleCop 5.x since it is no longer distributed via MSI.
